The old-style booth in the “Malt Shop” provides extra mealtime sitting space, or an out-of-the-way game room for the kids. A lot of guests like to be able to take their coffee and a book out here in the early morning while the others are sleeping in. Bedroom two has enough extra room for the rollaway bed, if needed. “The Helm”. Fresh water sea breezes are on the channel between Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan. With 2 balconies overlooking the channel, enjoy watching the marine traffic go by all day. The main floor balcony is a covered and screened in, so you can enjoy it no matter the weather or the few bugs we have here. The house sleeps 14 in beds and has 2 living rooms. Both have their own TV and sitting area, and the upstairs has 2 twin trundle day beds (4 twin size beds)! Great for kids to have their own space. Stocked kitchen with everything you'll need for a big family meals, and 2 dining areas that each seat up to 10. Step out the front door to the channel boardwalk and walk, run, or bike all the way to the beach, light house, or submarine museum. We've got adult and kid bikes, as well as beach chairs for your use. Pere Marquette Beach, on Lake MI, is just a walk or bike ride away. If you bring a boat, there's a launch at the marina all within walking distance of the house called Harbor Towne. If you have a larger boat, Harbor Towne has transient slips to rent. Also within walking distance are 2 up beat award winning restaurants with nightly live music and outdoor seating; The Deck and Dockers! And for any historians, there's a submarine museum featuring the USS Silversides, a real WW2 Submarine about 4 houses down. This is and turn of the century actors colony with the likes of Buster Keaton summering here. We also have one of the largest Michigan purple Martin colonies a few doors down. Upper Level Living Area: Harvest Oak simulated wood flooring is in the living area & master bedroom of the Upper Level. Two antique, matching swag stained glass hanging lamps are at each end of the living room. An HDTV is mounted out of the way on the wall next to the couch & easy chair. The Flat Screen TV can be seen from any angle with it's 4 Way Mount. A Blu Ray DVD Player can provide your own personal movies. The desk with easy access plugs as your Charging Station is convenient in the Living Room. An antique quarter-cut oak pedestal table/4 chairs faces the yard & wildlife feeding stations. The is a queen bed in the master bedroom and a wood 1920's antique dresser/mirror & bedside table. The 2nd upper level bedroom has a large closet and dresser along-side adult sized bunk beds. The bath has a shower/tub, along with the sink/cabinet & toilet. A list is on the fridge of all the items in the kitchen & where they are located. Everything needed in a kitchen is there or handy to get from the kitchenette in the lower level. Also, a nice, antique styled table with 2 chairs in the kitchen looks over the back covered part of the patio. The 4 burner stove/oven is gas. It is not a large refrigerator, but ample enough to hold plenty of needed supplies. The small refrigerator on the lower level gives enough space for the overflow. Lower Studio(Mother-In-Law Apartment) Amenities: This Area could almost be known as a 'Home within a Home' . Technically, it is considered what's known as a "Daylight Basement". The east side facing the yard is about 1/2 below grade & 1/2 above grade. The entry to the front apartment area is four steps, as is the entry in the back to the laundry room. The back entry also can access the kitchen on the upper level. The lower level is a small, but nice secluded getaway for adults or kids. It is carpeted in the sitting/sleeping area. For those taller than 5'7", there are a couple lower archways that require bending over. There is also a slight step-up from the sitting area to the Kitchenette. A beautifully finished antique chifferobe(chest of drawers with clothes hanging area & mirror) is our nicest antique furnishing. There are many more, top quality, antique furnishings throughout the cottage. The TV/Stereo cabinet with it's side to side swivel is easily viewed in the sleeping/sitting areas. A portable stereo/CD player is also provided. The privacy this space can provide for another guest or two to retreat to is handy. The queen bed is also a comfortable place to watch your favorite, late night TV programs. It's also a nice area for the older kids to watch their own tv shows. It's not advisable to leave young kids in this area that need to be watched more closely. It has it's own private entrance from outside or can be accessed inside through the laundry room. Along with the sink in the kitcehette, there is a double laundry sink, a sitting only toilet/stool under the stairwell, and a large, private shower area, and the clothes washer & dryer. Plenty of room for the ironing board to stay up continuously & not be in the way. Landscaping/Yard: We do some things to make the yard area better each year. We would like to add more annuals & perennials, but the voracious deer make it a real challenge. A wooden fence along the back border is great for helping provide privacy. The bamboo plants that fill in along the back border also give a natural privacy feel. The yard is one of the largest in the neighborhood. There is another area with a 2nd picnic table. We call this 'Boston's Nature Preserve'. Tiger Lillies surround this setting. Two bird feeding stations, corn holders for squirrels provide a close-up view of the abundant wildlife for some outstanding outdoor entertainment. The yard has sunny areas throughout the day, but is mostly shaded with the surrounding beech, oak, maple, & pine trees. Our yard maintenance service has stopped by around mid-day in the past years to water and refill the wildlife feeding stations when needed. Wood stove ashes are properly disposed of for your convenience. This is all done with minimal intrusion. You might not see anyone unless you spend all your time at the cottage. Our plans for Spring 2019 is to install an automatic outdoor irrigation system for regular watering when needed. This will be less time needed to manually water the lawn and keep it green for all guests the entire Summer 2019 Season. An awning covers a large area of the patio off the back of the cottage. Off street parking for 2 cars. Street parking is legal, convenient, and safe.

The sugar sand beach is very clean and regularly groomed and sifted. There is a large play structure for the little ones as well as restrooms and concession area. Play in the water, build a sandcastle, fly a kite, take a kite-boarding lesson, rent a boat, seadoo or paddleboard and so much more. Harbour Towne Beach is a short walk in the other direction and sits on the shore of Muskegon Lake. If the “Big Lake” is too rough or cold, consider Harbour Towne Beach. Both beaches are very walk-able, however if you have little ones and a bunch of gear, consider driving. Parking at both beaches is metered. Walk the entire length of the paved channel and take a tour of the lighthouse at the west end. It’s quite a climb up and it’s not for the faint of heart but well worth the view. Bring your fishing pole and do some channel fishing-license is required. For history buffs, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is a stone’s throw away and a big feature in your backyard view. Consider visiting for a great day of WWII submarine history. Two fantastic seasonal restaurants are within walking distance from The Channel House. Docker’s Fish House is a very short walk. Here you’ll find a varied menu of great food with live entertainment Friday through Sunday. The Deck is right on the beach at Pere Marquette to the north of the Pier. There are volleyball nets available for use and plenty of space to just lounge in the sun! The Lakes Mall is a wonderful place to do some shopping and is only 15 minutes away. Heritage Landing is located in downtown Muskegon. This hosts a wide variety of events all summer long. If you enjoy motorcycles, there is a new Harley Davidson shop right downtown. Bike week is hosted at Heritage landing at the end of July. Michigan Adventure is an exciting amusement/water park located only 30 minutes away. Three private bedrooms provide sleeping for six with two double beds and one futon. The living room has a day-bed with trundle for two more. Bailey Sands is an adorable cottage on a private drive, just across the street from the beautiful Pere Marquette Beach, the large public beach in Muskegon, Michigan. Walk the beach to the beach BBQ restaurant, or down the wooded trail just behind the cottage for a nature adventure. Close to nature, beach and trails, but yet isolated enough for optimal safety. Enhanced disinfection and cleaning procedure will also give you peace of mind. Beach has playground equipment and vendors that sell ice cream and drinks. There is a dog beach down the way, and dogs are allowed in the wooded sand dunes as well. Short drive to Michigan Adventure Amusement Park, or the many breweries and wineries located in this part of West Michigan. Bailey Sands has 2 bedrooms-1 queen, 1 full/twin bunk, and pull out couch. Bath includes bathtub shower. This house is well equipped. 6 bedrooms, all with hardwoods, futons and sleeper sofa that can easily sleep 17 +. 2 full bathrooms. A front porch (deck) on the main level and a front deck up on the 2nd level with great views of Lake Michigan. Parking for 5 vehicles. Flag down the trolley bus in front of the house and for $1.25 you can visit local tourist spots. Take a stroll along the miles and miles of pristine Lake Michigan's lake shore. Pere Marquette is ideal for children with 2 beach playgrounds within walking distance (one just across the street). Cruise along the Lakeside bike Trail just a few minutes from the house.
